Biography & Metadata
The UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) is an ensemble of accomplished musicians and classical music devotees within the international community, united by a shared belief in music's power to embody and advance the values of the United Nations. Rooted in the intimacy and expressive depth of chamber music, the UNCMS brings to life the ideals enshrined in the UN Charter — peace, human dignity, cultural respect, and the equal rights of all people. The ensemble has performed at UN Headquarters for humanitarian causes, with concerts broadcast globally on UN WebTV and YouTube. Since its Carnegie Hall debut in October 2018, the UNCMS has returned to that storied stage on numerous occasions, while building collaborations with a remarkable roster of artists spanning classical and popular music — among them musicians of the New York Philharmonic, members of Daniel Barenboim's West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, Julian Marley, Sara Marley, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Joe Hisaishi & Mai Fujisawa, Kadim Al Sahir, Christopher Tin, and Wouter Kellerman. The UNCMS Society's first global electronic music album, HARMONY, has surpassed one million streams on Spotify — a reflection of the global resonance of its mission. Founded in 2016 by Brenda Vongova, the UNCMS is dedicated to promoting the goals of the United Nations through the universal language of music. The UNCMS donates 100% of its streams towards the UN’s humanitarian efforts.
