Biography & Metadata
Influenced by the innovative guitar playing of Michael Hedges and the poetry of Rumi and Leonard Cohen, Bhrigu's music is heartwarming, expansive and contains a transportive quality. Based out of Pune, India, Bhrigu studied performance and songwriting at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Meeting musicians from Spain, Greece, Brazil and other countries, at the Berklee College of Music, served as inspiration for him to practice and develop his own sound. From the spiritual music of Ali Akbar Khan to the heavy beats of J Dilla and D'Angelo, Bhrigu is inspired by a range of musicians. Bob Marley, John Scofield, Pink Floyd, Grant Green are amongst his favourites to hear. His debut EP, What Is Now was released to a packed hall of friends and listeners in Brooklyn, New York. Soon after, the EP was featured by Rolling Stone Magazine (India) followed by performances at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender (2017), Odd Bird Theatre and Sofar Sounds India. Playing music has taken him to venues like Carnegie Hall, The Blue Note Jazz Club, The Pitanga Center in Auroville and he has collaborated and shared the stage with Arooj Aftab, Karsh Kale, Currency Audio, Meshell Ndegeocello and Ankur Tewari.
