Witness The Funk was founded in 2010 by Mnqobi Mchunu (Aux Cable), ex-member Nhlakanipho Shongwe (Moshine) and ex-member Muzi Mazibuko (Mvzi). Aux Cable ,Muzi and Moshine had been childhood friends from their shared hometown Empangeni in Kwa-Zulu Natal. The trio released a mixtape titled “The Pursuit” in 2010 . Two years later the group met LIndokuhle Ndlovu (Efelow) whose flows and lyrical abilities impressed the group. In 2013 Muzi left WTF and Efelow had now become a fully-fledged member of the group. The perception of mainstream hip hop (Trap) with the introduction of their sub-genre “Gqom trap” which drew inspiration from the Durban kwaito style of house known as Gqom as well as trap sounds.
