Biography & Metadata
J.DEROBIE, (Derick Obuobie Jnr) hailing from Accra, Ghana, is a versatile artist blending dancehall and afrobeats. He excels as a singer, songwriter, and performer, drawing inspiration from AfroBeat, Reggae/Dancehall, and HighLife genres. J.Derobie developed a passion for music during his teenage years. Later, he pursued music seriously and released his first official song which brought him into the limelight on 11th January 2019, titled Poverty, which become one of the biggest dancehall song on the continent through emPawa100; an incubator programme devised by Mr Eazi. It was his incredible musical abilities that catapulted Derobie to the forefront of the programme and he was then chosen to be one of the successful 100. Ghanaian artist's popular song "Poverty" became a major hit in 2019 and later received a remix from Jamaican star Popcaan. It was honored as Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year by VGMA and 3Music Awards. J.Derobie has released several singles, including "Odo Bra," "Irie," "Riches," and "Back it." He later unveiled his debut EP, "Nungua Diaries," in 2019, and subsequently released his debut album, "Grains From Love & Reality," in 2022. After a short hiatus, J.Derobie announced a trilogy of EPs titled "Firm After Al" ni 2024. The first installment, "Wavez 1," was released on May 8, 2024, followed by "Wavez 2" on February 19, 2025. A third installment, "Wavez 3", is reportedly in the works.
