Biography & Metadata

Carbon Martyr is a goth music project founded in 2020 by Jake Hamilton. The idea took shape after he toured the U.S. with Pig alongside Raymond Watts and En Esch, whose joking advice to “style your hair and make goth music” became the catalyst. Carbon Martyr debuted with A Soft Spot for the Broken (2021), then pivoted from industrial-metal to goth-pop on 2022’s Adjust Settings for Optimal Performance and the retro-leaning single “Neighbourhood.” Hamilton fully embraced a darker gothic style on 2024’s Whispers in the Abyss EP, featuring the project's most successful single to date “She Wants to Use.” After leaving Machine Music United in 2026, Carbon Martyr signed with Toronto’s Prætoria Records, with a deluxe version of 'Whispers In The Abyss' slated for spring 2026. Outside the project, Hamilton is better recognized as the drummer for Toronto band The Android Meme and is known in the music scene as a Christian apologist. In 2025, he began graduate studies toward a master’s degree in pastoral ministry.
