Biography & Metadata
Nathan Shubert is a Berlin-based modern classical pianist, composer, and field recordist. Originally from Canada, Nathan Shubert (they/them) writes music that merges felted piano, minimalism, and a quiet, observational sense of intimacy. Their work is shaped by subtle details—creaking wood, pedal noise, soft hammers—and an approach that treats the piano as both a musical and physical landscape. Schillerpromenade, the lead single from their forthcoming EP Doubts and loves like a mole (2 October 2026, Bigo & Twigetti), opens a chamber-leaning chapter of piano with trumpet and clarinets. It follows Iso (2025), recorded with an eleven-microphone setup on their home upright piano, an unvarnished portrait of presence, vulnerability, and emotional clarity. Iso came after The Moon From Here (2022), which completed a trilogy exploring loss, quiet transformation, and the search for stability during years of upheaval. Now rooted in Berlin's modern classical community, Shubert continues to perform across Europe, bringing a deeply personal, sensory-aware approach to contemporary piano music.
