Biography & Metadata
Based between Melbourne and Nashville, Ella Hooper is a multi-award-winning singer-songwriter, TV and radio host known for blending bombastic rock'n'roll roots with relatable, unvarnished storytelling. Blurring genre lines with a mix of plain spoken modern lyricism and classic sounds, Ella holds household name status in Australia and has been crafting an independent solo career after coming to recognition via teenage rock band, Killing Heidi. Now in her singer-songwriter solo YOLO era - recent touring partners include James Taylor, Chris Isaak, CMAT, and most recently supporting The Waterboys internationally. Even as a renowned live performer, Ella’s writing has always been at the fore. She was the first woman and youngest person to be awarded APRA’s Songwriter of the Year Award in 2001, while her 2023 album ‘Small Town Temple’ debuted at No. 1 on the Australian Country chart and was nominated for the prestigious Australian Music Prize. New album ‘Overnight Success’ (out Oct 2nd) was recorded in Nashville with stalwarts of the scene like Jim Lauderdale, Steve Poltz, Melody Walker (Sierra Ferrell) and LOLLIES aka Clare Reynolds (Rachel Baiman) and is a look back and a wink at a 30 odd year career trajectory and playfully explores the dichotomy of still feeling like an ingenue.
