Kura

Michigan rapper & producer Kura (pka Blockboy K) has been a fixture in Detroit’s rap scene since he was 15. His sound combines sharp, purpose-driven songwriting with hard-hitting, versatile production, and his clear creative vision draws from punk’s raw energy and a deep interest in obscure fashion. His 2020 album, Akura, laid the blueprint for the hyperpop subgenre, featuring producers like star boy & Loesoe long before they contributed to the sounds of Playboi Carti & Lil Uzi Vert. In 2023, Kura teamed up with one of his biggest influences, Grammy-winning artist Pi’erre Bourne, for a punk-inspired collaborative project titled Born Seditionary. Also an accomplished producer, Kura’s credits include Babyface Ray, Veeze, & LAZER DIM 700. After years of evolving his sound and gradually building a dedicated following, Kura experienced a career-changing moment after winning PlaqueBoyMax's Song Wars in January 2025, setting him up to be the next artist to break out of rap’s underground.
