James Blundell

Hailing from the sheep-and-cattle station near Stanthorpe, Queensland, James Blundell grew up with the wide-open Australian landscape in his back pocket, and the stories of the land in his heart. He first burst into the spotlight in 1987, crowned winner of the Starmaker Talent Quest and quickly establishing himself as one of the most influential country artists of his generation. Over a career spanning more than three decades, James has released 14 studio albums and achieved major commercial and critical success — including the smash 1992 release This Road, which sold over 145,000 copies in Australia. His “crossover” hit with James Reyne — a version of “Way Out West” — not only topped charts but widened his audience beyond traditional country fans. James wears many hats: singer, songwriter, storyteller — and yes, farmer. He remains rooted in the land where he grew up, balancing touring and studio time with life on the farm. His music draws deeply from the Australian bush, rugged rural landscapes, and the human dramas that play out in small towns and on long drives. In 2019, he received one of country music’s highest honours with induction into the Country Music Association of Australia Hall of Fame. More recently, James has recommitted to his craft with fresh inspiration, international studio sessions and a new chapter that blends Americana, roots and his unmistakable Aussie character.
