Era James

Era James, born in Lafayette, Louisiana, had a challenging childhood in Baton Rouge’s projects. Due to an abusive relationship with his father, his mother moved him and his four brothers to Alief, Houston, Texas, for a fresh start. Era’s passion for music began early, excelling in classical music with the violin and French horn. He was placed in advanced classes in the sixth grade. However, poverty and peer pressure led him down a difficult path, resulting in time spent from ages 17 to 26 in and out of jails and prisons. Ultimately, he received an 8 year sentence after being in and out of jail for different crimes. Despite these struggles, he secured parole after serving three years. Upon release, Era dedicated himself to serving in jails, schools, and prisons, using mentorship, Christian hip-hop, and discipleship to guide others towards Christ. Currently, Era works as a Community Liaison at the Harris County Public Defender’s Office. From his experiences in prisons to the streets and beyond, Era is committed to witnessing lives transformed.
