Biography & Metadata
Born and raised in the Oakwood neighborhood of Venice, California — one of LA's most storied Black communities — ROE carries her hometown in everything she does. A Grammy Award-winning vocalist, songwriter, and storyteller, she signed her first record deal at just 15, earning her first Grammy as a contributor to Usher's "Papers" before most artists even find their footing. After years as one of music's most sought-after pens behind the scenes — writing hits for Mary J. Blige, Megan Thee Stallion, Chloe x Halle, Normani, City Girls, and more — ROE stepped fully into the spotlight on her own terms. Her sound blends the warmth of classic R&B with modern production, anchored by rich, magnetic vocals that feel both timeless and undeniably now. Her 2025 EP Oakwood was a love letter to her roots — to community, resilience, and the Black history of Venice Beach that shaped her. Its standout single "Stay" earned the ultimate cultural co-sign when it landed on Barack Obama's annual list of his favorite songs of 2025, putting ROE in the company of Kendrick Lamar, Chappell Roan, and Lady Gaga. Now she's moving into her next chapter. Her new single "Body" — the first taste of her forthcoming EP — makes it clear ROE is only getting started. Raw, honest, and deeply personal, her music lives at the intersection of soul and self. ROE isn't just an artist. She's what Black excellence sounds like. She's Venice.
