Mari Merenda

Mari Merenda is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist whose work is rooted in a constant search for new ways of creating, listening and expressing through sound. At the center of her artistic language is the asalato, an African instrument she has transformed into a tool for composition, rhythm and experimentation. Through her original method 'Escrita das Esferas', Mari developed her own visual system for writing music for the instrument, creating a language that reflects her intuitive and unconventional approach to rhythm. Her music moves freely between songwriting, percussion, electronic textures and experimentation, building a universe of her own. Her debut album, 'Crônica' (2022), was produced entirely in her bedroom. Her latest EP, 'Reverbero' (2025), expands her signature sound collaborating in on the tracks 'Fúria' and 'Reverbero' with production, mixing and mastering by Latin Grammy-winning artists Felipe Vassão, João Milliet and Felipe Tichauer. Mari’s work with the asalato has reached millions of people around the world. In 2023, a video of her performing 'Rodopiado' by Ronaldo Silva led to a collaboration with the American duo Sofi Tukker, transforming the song into 'Veneno', which has surpassed 16 million streams on Spotify. A recipient of the 2023 MUS Award for Best Music Influencer, Mari has built an international audience of over 2 million followers and has performed across Europe, including Portugal, Spain, France and Germany.
