Biography & Metadata

Transforming grief into guitar riffs, Burlington pop punk band Chasing the Sunshine channel pain, resilience, and lifelong friendship into music that inspires hope in hopeless times. At the heart of the band’s songwriting is Rostik, whose music is shaped by loss, displacement, and perseverance. After immigrating to Canada as a child and losing both parents, music became his escape from grief and isolation. Alongside fellow vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ryan, the two spent years moving through different bands, setbacks, and struggles before reuniting in 2023. Everything they endured separately and survived together became the foundation for Chasing the Sunshine. Drawing from the energy and urgency of blink-182, Sum 41, Story of the Year, and Machine Gun Kelly, the band combines explosive performances, modern pop punk melodies, and emotionally honest lyrics. Their songs speak to anyone who has ever felt overlooked, stuck, or never “good enough,” while still searching for light within it. Their 2025 debut album, Merry Go Round, helped establish the band within Ontario’s punk and alternative scenes, earning support from stations including 94.9 The Rock, 89.1 Max FM, Radio Waterloo, and Rock Rage Radio. The album also featured “Faker,” mixed by Grammy and Juno Award-winning producer Eric Ratz. With new music planned for 2026, the band continues turning hardship into cathartic music, proving they'll never stop chasing the sunshine.
