Biography & Metadata
A native of Richmond, Virginia, Jini June grew up listening to artists spanning all genres, from pop to R&B, country to classical - but her biggest musical influences are Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Beyoncé. Her South Asian background was a staple of her musical upbringing, having been first trained in Indian classical vocal (Carnatic) by her mother, also a singer. It wasn't until high school that she decided to pursue music as a profession. Under the guidance of Grammy-winning composer, Quincy Patrick, (who has produced and written for Babyface, Usher, Alicia Keys among others), Jini began writing her own songs that leaned towards pop/R&B. Her fusion of Carnatic and pop music on her cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” was her first viral success. Also a trained pianist, Jini has developed a following on social media via her viral piano mash ups of classical and hip-hop covers. She draws from all these influences in the making of her own music.
