Joe Simpson

I'm Joe. I've been a musician since I was in grade school. I'm primarily a guitar player but I play a few other instruments as well. Most of my time as a guitar player I've been a part of a band. I was and am apart of the San Jose California based Grey Matter from 1983-88 and 2000 to present. I'm also the primary songwriter in the band /Spotify artist Barrelfish. In the last few years, especially since the pandemic, I've focused more on recording and playing on tracks for other Spotify artists: Julie Simpson, Tim Freund, Karina Smith and Steve Hartsoe. Last year, I put together a bunch of Bob Dylan tracks called From A Buick 6 - Tribute to Bob and released them on YouTube. The collection includes a version of Things Have Changed featuring Jerry Raney (BeatFarmers) on vocals and guitar. Another features Steve Hartsoe tearing up Man of Peace. Also the sublime performance of One More Cup of Coffee by Sabine Heusler Schick and Kenny Schick along with me adding guitar, which will be my first release of 2025. Also I got to collaborate with Julie on her outrageous song about pining for a getaway,”Let’s do it”. As well as her trad jazz original tune “Don’t say Goodbye”. I look forward to releasing more Grey Matter songs from our live performances as well as some of my own solo work too. Much more to follow. J
