Large Professor

Large Professor is a Queens, New York–born MC, DJ, and producer and one of the foundational figures of early 1990s East Coast hip-hop. He first made his mark as a teenager producing for Main Source, helping shape their influential 1991 album Breaking Atoms, a record widely credited with pushing forward a more sample-driven, jazz-influenced sound in rap production. After leaving the group, he launched a solo career while continuing to produce for major artists, including Nas on the classic Illmatic tracks “Halftime” and “One Time 4 Your Mind.” Known for his precise drum work, deep crate-digging sensibility, and authentic boom-bap aesthetic, Large Professor remains a respected and enduring figure in hip-hop culture.
